Changing Environments. Changing Mindsets. Changing Lives.
A 501(c)(3) nonprofit transforming young men from distressed communities through mentorship, education, leadership development, and real opportunity.
DBR wasn't born in a boardroom. It was built by three men who lived the struggle and refused to let the next generation face it alone. We exist because the gap between potential and opportunity is too wide — and too many young men fall through it.
To improve distressed communities through youth programs by establishing environments that instill empowerment, personal responsibility, integrity, resilience, and a pursuit of something greater than oneself.
Total personal development — intellectually, emotionally, socially, spiritually, ethically, and physically. We don't just help young men survive. We build them to lead.
We physically move young men out of dangerous environments into structured, growth-centered communities. Sometimes a new environment is the first step to a new life.
Intensive one-on-one and group mentorship for youth and adults focused on leadership, accountability, and building a clear, actionable vision for the future.
Using athletics as a vehicle for discipline, teamwork, and real opportunity. We use the game they love to teach the life lessons they need.
Partnering with churches, schools, and corporations to deliver structured leadership and personal development programs in the communities that need them most.
Academic support, therapy, emotional development, and college pathway planning — so participants don't just graduate, they thrive beyond graduation.
Financial assistance and wraparound support for families and partner organizations — because the mission extends beyond the individual.
You can't always control what life throws at you. You can't choose your environment, your circumstances, or where you start. But you always control your response — and that response determines your outcome. This isn't just a motto. It's the framework we use to build men.

"Every young person deserves an environment that supports their potential — not one that limits it."— Dreams Become Reality · Chandler, Arizona
DBR wasn't built in theory. It was built by three men who understand what it means to come from nothing — and what it takes to build something that lasts for generations.
Demetrus Johnson is a Milwaukee, Wisconsin native who spent three years in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he played football for the University of Minnesota and met his wife. He later transferred to Illinois State University, where he completed his collegiate football career and earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics.
Although a career-ending injury brought his dream of playing in the NFL to a close, Demetrus successfully transitioned the discipline, leadership, and resilience he developed through athletics into a successful career in Corporate America. He currently serves as a Key Account Manager with Johnson & Johnson, while also pursuing entrepreneurial ventures and serving as Co-Founder of Dreams Become Reality.
With more than 15 years of diverse leadership experience across Fortune 500 companies, startups, and nonprofit organizations, Demetrus has dedicated his career to educating, motivating, and empowering others. He is deeply passionate about building meaningful relationships and helping individuals—especially youth—recognize and achieve their full potential.
Demetrus is a devoted husband and proud father of two sons and a daughter.
Darrell's commitment to mentorship and leadership has shaped DBR's philosophy of building young men from the inside out — intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, and socially.
Les brings structure, accountability, and strategic vision to DBR — ensuring every initiative produces real, measurable transformation in the lives and communities it serves.
Coach Vaughn has 20 years of experience coaching, mentoring, and developing athletes, helping them achieve their goals in the game of basketball and turning their dreams into reality!
Coach Vaughn made his mark at the grassroots level, where his athletes helped him create MOTOM Enterprises, associated with the nonprofit organization DBR (Dreams Become Reality), on whose board he serves and where he also serves as a director.
Coach Vaughn worked his way up to become a head varsity high school basketball coach, as well as a coach at the national prep school and postgraduate school levels.
Dreams Become Reality not only helped me chase what I was passionate about, it showed me how people can be there to help you succeed.
More than Basketball
As a struggling student in the roughest parts of Brooklyn, New York, basketball was the only thing keeping me in school and out of trouble. I was given the opportunity to relocate.
Since 2019, every young man who completed the DBR program has graduated high school. Nearly all have gone on to college. These aren't coincidences — they're the result of a proven, repeatable system built on deep mentorship, accountability, environment change, and total personal development.
Every young person deserves a real shot. Your time, dollars, and voice can change the trajectory of a life — and a community.
Fund mentorship, boarding, academic support, and life-changing opportunity for young men who need it most.
